QIQIHAER [TS’I-TS’I-HA-EUL] ou QIQIHAR ou TSITSIHAR

Ville (1 070 000 hab. en 1990) de la province chinoise du Heilongjiang, métropole de la partie occidentale de cette province au pied du Grand Khingan, Qiqihar (Tsitsihar) fut créée en 1699 comme place forte, appuyant la colonisation chinoise de la Mandchourie. Au début du XXe siècle, la création du réseau ferré, dont Qiqihar est une plaque tournante dans cette partie occidentale de la Mandchourie, fit de la ville une grande place d’échanges et de transformation de la production agricole de la région (bois, céréales, betterave à sucre, soja). Au cours des années 1960, l’industrialisation gagna les deux villes voisines d’Agaganki et de Fularki, qui constituaient en 1992 avec Qiqihar un district urbain de près de 1 400 000 habitants; une aciérie a été implantée à Fularki, fournissant les matières premières à l’important complexe métallurgique d’Agaganki (matériel ferroviaire, machines-outils, matériel minier). Qiqihar est aussi un centre d’industries agro-alimentaires (dérivés du lait, raffineries de sucre), du bois et de ses dérivés (papeteries).
